12" Gauge Cast Iron Curve Track
Curved track should be manufactured in single piece 45º sections. Manufactured in this manner, when a curve is combined with another curve or a 45º switch, only two castings are required to produce a 90º turn.
The manufacturer should have an ample supply of casting patterns in a variety of radii,5'- 6" radius and 6'- 0" radius are typically standards. However, additional curve radii for tight turns and broad sweeping turns should also be available (4’- 5 ½" radius, 6'- 6" radius)
Custom slicing of curved sections allows an infinite selection of angles, "S" turns, etc.
Precision patterns, pattern makers and a substantial pattern inventory is required for any manufacturing firm to produce a consistent, quality product.
G) Splice plates should be pre-installed and hardware included to reduce field labor (field welding and grinding is an antiquated, labor intensive, track connecting method).
H) Casting ends should be machined for a precise flush joint.
I) Pre-drilled and countersunk bolt holes are necessary to reduce installation time.
Inspect outside track trench wall (centrifugally loaded side) for wear. Any visual wear damage occurring to the curves is a "Red Flag", indicating worn or Non-OEM wheels.
Each track splice equates to installation labor and potential joint problems. Obtain the largest castings with the fewest splices to expedite installation and limit future headaches.
